Stacy DunedinWelcome! My name is Stacy, and I’m the creator of Stacy’s Flutterings blog. I’m glad that on your journey you’ve decided to land here for awhile! In addition to being a blogger, I’m a wife, mother of three, and grandmother of two.  And when I’m in the company of my family, everything is right in the world.

Also, near and dear to my heart is volunteerism. I’ve had some amazing volunteer opportunities. I’ve volunteered with the ABC Extreme Makeover: Home Edition TV show, the Karla Smith Foundation and the Balanced Mind Parent Network.

I’m also passionate about mental health advocacy, especially in regard to suicide prevention and the elimination of stigma. My desire to help others has led to an accumulation of several graduate degree classes with a focus on professional counseling in addition to my teaching degree.

I’m currently a research analyst by day and writer by night!

In addition to being the creator of Stacy’s Flutterings blog, I’m the author of Simply 1 Mom’s Thoughts About Coping When an Adult Child Lives With Mental Illness. I’ve also proudly been a contributor at Lose the Cape.

Getting to the heart of Stacy’s Flutterings, one of my daughters lives with bipolar disorder. She’s also a suicide survivor. I’m also a survivor. I’m a survivor as a parent of a child who lives with mental illness. I survived the moment I discovered her after her last near fatal suicide attempt, and I’m surviving parenthood now. And rather than having an empty nest, as many parents do at my age, I have a half full nest. And I have good news. There is so much hope no matter what we are facing. A half full nest is okay, and mental illness doesn’t define my daughter, myself or my family. It just happens to be a part of our story. I hope you’ll join me as I blog about our experiences as we work diligently to achieve and maintain mental health wellness individually and as a family. The material that is weaved into our nests may be different, but the material and weaving of each one is beautiful.
