Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011 was the third day of the build for the Hill Family. Eventually that day I became so overwhelmed with emotion that I began to cry there in the catering tent. The tears were tears of joy because I was so happy to be a small part of the Hill Family’s story, and at the same time I was so touched by the stories volunteers were sharing with me. Additionally, I was beyond thankful to the Smith Family. Emily Smith, our amazing volunteer coordinator for the Extreme Makeover, noticed I was having an issue so she quickly got me outside of the catering tent to make sure I was okay. She was concerned that I was hurt. I was so overcome with emotion that I could barely speak. Finally, I was able to put it into words, “You get me!” Emily, Kevin, Tom and Fran Smith, “You get me!” The Smith’s know what our family is going through. I was not hurt or in pain I was just overcome with the fact that the Smith’s understand what the King Family is going through in regards to the bipolar disorder of a loved one. Thank you Tom, Fran, Kevin and Emily, and to the Karla Smith Foundation. You have provided our family with support and resources that are immeasurable. I am honored to say that I am a volunteer with the Karla Smith Foundation. I have always wanted to volunteer, and finally I aligned where I was supposed to. From the heart ~ thank you!
